Yes, I am unofficially an expatriate from Singapore working in Shenzhen China.
BUT!
I am not a full fledged expatriate, but a Half Fucked one.
YES!
You did not read it wrongly. Half Fucked = me.
WHY?
Let me break it down for you readers this way.
Expatriate Traits
· Working overseas
· Paid overseas allowance
· Living conditions slightly better than the commonest worker here
· Treated slightly better than the locales
· Being about to spout & write a language that few others fully comprehend
Non Expatriate Traits
· Squeezing in crazily “aromatic” buses literally packed to the brim
· Unable to afford anything in the shops catered for the expatriates
· Working 12 hours a day, 6 days a week (1 hour of break for lunch and dinner)
· Working as a operator on a production line requiring minimal brain activity (for now)
· Unable to enjoy any public holidays be it from the home or host country
· Meals are mainly consumed at many joints where meat origin may be questionable (e.g pork may not be from pigs or mutton may not be from sheep)
· Drastic alteration or modifications to basic lifestyle needs (e.g no MP3 players allowed, which = JUST KILL ME!Thank you very much.)
· Mandatory uniform of disgustingly over-sized and ugly company polo tees (Just so you guys know, they forced me to take XXL, the largest size!!!!!)
· Unpredictable home trip or home leave timings
· ALLOWANCE STILL NOT BANKED IN!!!!!
· And many many more….
TRUE!
I am freaking biased and extremely myopic in terms of my point of views
BUT
Who gives a damn?! NOT ME!!!
THE END of 1 bitching session.
Moo.
NB: You’ll see an attached photo with the oversized polo tee and my company name tag.
